The 70's

This term we are doing wearable arts. Our theme is 'The 70's'!!!! We are using the Habit of Mind, Try New Ideas to create our garment. Here are our Success Criteria:

• We have used a variety of household materials.
• We have designed an outfit the depicts the 1970's era.
• We have tried new ideas to create something spectacular.
• We have used Green Screening to showcase our design.

Year 5 Technology

Duffy Assembly

Today we had a visitor from Duffy, Jo Holley. She has worked on TV shows like The Crowd Goes Wild, Squirt, Studio 2 and has been in lots of adds! She came to deliver us our books.

DARE Trip

Today the Senior Stars went on a trip to celebrate the end of our DARE trip. In DARE we learned about choices and consequences, the effects of drugs, how to resist peer pressure and a lot of other things to help us make good choices. Today we went to see the Smurfs Movie and then we went to the pools. Thanks for everyone's help today!!!!!

Swimming

On Friday we had our last session of swimming for 2011. We had some sharing time of what we had learned and then we were allowed some free time. Watch the video of us sharing what we have learned this term.



Thanks to all of the parents who came down to help us teach these children such a valuable life skill!!!!!!!!

Swimming

At the pools today we were doing some life saving skills. One of the things we have to be able to do is skull water for 2 minutes in clothes. It was a lot more difficult than we thought it would be.

DARE

We have started DARE this week. One of the activities we did involved us sharing something that is special to us. Room 10 did so well explaining why these things were special.

Winter Warmers

Today the lovely library lady from Feilding Library came to visit us. She brought us lots of cool books and water bottles. We got our prizes because we have completed 10 book reviews. Lots of thanks to the Eastern and Central Community Trust for supporting such a cool activity. Room 10 have slotted our reviews into our reading program and have completed 1 a week. We feel a great sense of achievement and really enjoy our cool prizes!!!!!

Swimming

This term we are going to be swimming every Friday after morning tea. It would be wonderful to see parents there supporting the valuable life skills your children are learning. Here are some photos of us today at the pool.

WALT: Balance

We are learning to balance on the big beam. To help us balance it is important that we:

• focus on what we are doing
• look forward
• have our arms out like an airoplane
• point our toes
  
• land properly

Kerilee was our expert at balancing on the beam today, look how well she did!!!!!

Gymnastics

We are learning to land.

Our success criteria are:

• land on our toes, balls and then heels.
• bend our knees.
• Keep the motorbike position.
• Hold our landing for 3 seconds.

We practiced our landing with our eyes closed and from a running start. Then we practiced on the equipment.

Breana was our expert at landing today, look how well she did!!!

Term 2

Another long term is over and we are halfway through the school year. This has been a busy term with PrEP, marae visits, waiouru trip, and in between we did some reading, writing and maths. Have a look at our highlights:

Next term will be just as busy. We start swimming on a Friday, we have gymnastics, DARE, speeches and lots of other exciting events. So have a great break Room 10 and I will see you on the 1st of August.

Tangaroa's Gift

We have read the story Tangaroa's Gift. It is the story of how Paua got his shell. We spent a lot of time discussing what this story means for us in our lives. We have created our own Paua shells by blending pastel colours. Room 10 is very proud of what we have created. Let us know what you think.

Buddy Time

Today Room 10 went to visit Room 1. First, we helped our little buddies with a very important job. We had to glue our buddies amazing art work onto black paper. After we made sure that was perfect we took our little buddies out to the playground to help them take sensible risks and try something new. We had a great time helping you today!!!! Thanks for having us little buddies!!!!!!!

WALT: Take Risks

We have been discussing the different risks that we can take in school. We have looked at the different events that are coming up and decided on a risk that we can personally take. A lot of us have picked speaking in public as this is definitely stepping out of our comfort zone. Our risks will be kept on our wall for everyone to see, let us know what you think.
