Jayde's time a L.S.S
I have been in Room10 for 2 years and I enjoyed camp because it had a mud slide and I got muddy. I am looking forward to camp next year because it is in Wellington and Wellington is were my sister lives. I am proud of going on the water slide first in my group because no one wanted to go on it. I am proud of doing road patrol because I was helping people cross the road so they don't get hit by a car and I am also proud of getting involved with sport because I am not a sporty person

Gymnastics
WALT: do a forwards and backwards somersault.
We practiced our somersaults lots of times today. It is important that we keep our chin tucked in, our back curved and we stand between each somersault. Jayde was our expert in somersaulting today, even if he did get a bit dizzy!

Why do we have sunsets?
Today in theme we were investigating why the sun makes the colours it does when it goes up and down. We did an experiment to investigate this.
Aim: To find out why the Sun makes different colours when going up and down (sunset and sunrise)
Equipment: A glass, a torch or overhead projector, a spoon, water, milk a sheet of white paper.
Method:
- Fill the glass with water and stand it in front of the white paper.
- Shine the torch through the side of the water-filled glass in the direction of the paper.
- Observe what light strikes the paper. What colour is the light?
- Add a few drops of milk to the glass and stir through ( Don't add too much milk - just enough to make the water slightly cloudy)
- Shine the torch through the side of the glass like in step 2.
- Observe what light strikes the paper, what colour is it now?
- What does this mean for us on Earth?
The water with no milk in it reflected clear onto the screen. The milky water reflected orange onto the screen.
What this means for us on Earth?
White light is a mixture of all of the colours in the spectrum. when you sine white light through a jar of milky water. The tiny milk particles scatter the blue light in all directions, and so not much of this blue light ends up striking the paper. This effect is called Rayleigh Scattering. Red light is not effected in this way. Instead it passes through the milk and can be seen as a bright orange tint on the paper behind the glass.
Rayleigh Scattering also causes Sunsets. During a sunset only the red and orange light rays get through the atmosphere directly. All blue colours are scattering by tiny particles of dust in the atmosphere. The Sun and sky therefore appear reddish orange and they light up the clouds in the same colour.

Production
Last week the whole school was involved in our amazing production, Chocolate Fish, Gumboots and Number 8 Wire. It was a variety show that showcased kiwiana at its best. Our class item was a dance to the gumboot song. Here are some of the photos from the show.
Production on PhotoPeach
Thank you to all of the parents and other family members that came to support Lytton Street School.

Buddy Reading
Every Wednesday Room 10 goes to Room 4 to buddy read with them so they get better at their reading. After we read to them they read to us they get their books out of there kit box. My girl read me a crocodile book with a lady and I read a Dinosaur book to her. I felt good. I read my girl a Dinosaur book and she read me two books one about a toy shop and about a toy.I felt good after I did it. Before we started reading to our buddy Miss Lambert the teacher read us a story.

Keith Haring
In Room 10 we have been appreciating art. We have been studying Keith Haring, an American artist.
We will know we have been successful when our art:
- is covered using bright bold colours.
- has action lines.
- conveys an emotion in cartoon style.
- is eye catching.

Forest Lakes
On Wednesday the 5th of May the year 5\6 from Lytton Street School went to Forest Lake camp, north of Otaki. At camp we were learning to develop self confidence when faced with new challenges. A challenge that I over came was the water slide. It was a challenge because it was big and high. My favourite part of camp was the mud slide.
